Upselling and upsell are rare words, but they are very easy to understand, and they also have an immense importance in your business.

In fact, understanding and applying them well can make you bill 10%, 20% or even 50% more.

And the fact is that the objective of any business is to get the most out of each customer. Let's look at 2 examples.

The other day I went to buy a console as a gift, the Nintendo Switch.

I went to the store and they told me that I could buy the normal switch, and that it was 300€.

But since it was a gift, for only 50€ more, I could get the OLED version, with a better screen and a few more things.

So, when someone searches, they see that the console costs 300€.

But, when you go to the store and ask, you'll probably end up buying the one for €350, because that's our mentality as consumers.

But here I want to mention the advantages of upselling as a business, as someone who sells something.

Upselling allows you to offer products at a higher price, and therefore earn more for each customer.

The hamburger costs €4. But the seller, when I order it, offers to turn it into a menu, and add potatoes and drinks.

It makes sense, because that fits very well with the hamburger.

Instead of 4€, I'll have to pay 7€, but I'll have my full menu.

When I say yes, he offers to buy the XL menu, instead of buying the regular one.

I'll have more food and more drink, and only for 1 euro more.

In this example, there are both techniques.

👉 Cross Selling.

I wanted a hamburger, and they offered me food that matches the hamburger, which complements it.

And that's cross-selling, offering your customers products that might interest them with the purchase decision they've already made.

You sell him more things, different things.

👉 Up Selling.

Upselling is the part of converting the menu to XL.

It doesn't change what they buy from you, they just “do it better”. It's something bigger, more of the same.

In short, offer something that brings value to your customers, something that makes sense.

Don't just seek to earn more simply, seek to improve their experience and make them pay happy.
